Biography

Abeer Nehme is a renowned International Crossover Singer. Throughout the years, Abeer acquired knowledge in musicology and the theories of Arabic, Western and Religious music (Aramaic) to reach very advanced levels. She is known for her exquisite talents in performing different music styles with great ease and professionalism. She performs Arabic Traditional Tarab, traditional Middle Eastern folks, Arabo Andalusian songs, Ancient Syriac and Maronite chants, Opera, and Western Music. She sings in more than fourteen different languages.

simpleAbeer holds a Master’s degree of Art in Musicology fromthe Holy Spirit University of Kaslik – USEK and has received a diploma with high distinction in advanced traditional Arabic music performance.

Abeer performed in prominent international festivals amongst which “Festival les Orientales” in Paris, the International Musical Festival and Conference at Royaumont, “Festival Evora” in Portugal, Brussels Palace Flagey International Festival in Belgium, the 19th Bosra International Festival in Syria and most recently in the “Fes Festival 2013” of World Sacred Music in Morocco and the two opening nights for the prestigious Beiteddine International Art Festival 2013 in Lebanon. Abeer was accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestras of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Armenia, Syria, Ukraine, Egypt, Tunisia and Strasbourg to name a few. She also performed at many prestigious concert halls such as Urania Theater in Berlin, “MEGARO MOUSIKI” in Athens, Sodertalje Estrad Theater in Sweden, the Opera House of Cairo and Alexandria in Egypt, the Culture Palace, the Congress Palace, Opera House and Umayyad Palace Conference Hall in Damascus Syria as well as many other venues worldwide.

Abeer also excelled in theatre. She interpreted the leading female role in two plays by Elias Rahbani; “Andalusia, Jewel of the world” in 2007 and “Eela” in 2010. In 2013, she interpreted the leading female role in “Nouqaddimou Lakoum Watan”, a play by Antoine Ghandour at Casino du Liban.

The National Turkish Television – Istanbul, hosted Abeer as a permanent guest and leading performer for one year in a remarkable cultural music program entitled ”One Thousand and One Nights”.

In 2012, she embarked on a new TV project entitled “Ethnofolia” موسيقى الشعوب Mousika Al Chou’oub which is as documentary created, prepared and presented by Abeer herself and produced by Al Mayadeen TV. This documentary is the first of its kind in the world where Abeer travels worldwide on the search for the roots and origins of folk and ethnic music. The first season is now airing on Al Mayadeen TV and the second season is underway.

Abeer received numerous honor certificates and awards amongst which The Academic Award of the Lebanese Diva Wadih Safi, The Honor Award from the Apostoliki Diakonia – Greece, and The Arab Radios Union Golden Award and the Murex d’Or of the Distinguished Voice and Interpretation in the Arab World.
